There’s An App For That!

  • Health and Fitness Apps have become quite popular in the last few years.

  • Tracking health-related activities via smartphone or smartwatch have been incorporated into daily routines by people of all ages. These can be used to monitor fitness for sports, exercise or simply ‘activities of daily living.’ They have also been used to monitor sleep or prevent disease or disease progression.

  • So why should only humans have all the fun?
  • Recently, some software companies have developed apps for our dogs that emulate many of the same things that we measure for humans and beyond.

  • A Norwegian biotech company that offers food supplement for dogs has launched QPAWS – The Dog Activity App. The app, which will add a new dimension to human-dog interaction was developed in close collaboration with Øistein Sørensen, an active dog sled driver.  Sørensen previously launched a test pilot of the app which has already become a success with 15,000 dogs registered to date and, according to the author, has been described by app users as  “on its way to becoming one of the world’s best tools for active dog owners.”  The goal is simply to make it easier and more efficient to improve dog health. There is obviously a need out there because this has taken off much faster than anyone thought, and there is an  exciting new version which is now available for everyone. Whether you have one dog with a moderate level of activity, an entire kennel, or running dog sports at a high level, you can adapt the app to your use.”

  • An interesting bonus feature of the app is the ability to follow global dog competitions via a live function. During winter 2022, users can follow some of the world’s toughest dog sled races, including the Femund race (Norway in February) and the legendary Iditarod in Alaska in March. QPaws-The Dog Activity App is free and available for immediate download from the Apple AppStore and Google Play. Although the app already is geared to a wide spectrum of dog owners, it will be updated in the coming months with a lot of new features tailored for different types of dog owners and their activities (such as hunting dogs, agility training, service dogs and more).  The app tracks health data, vaccine records, daily activities, food intake and resting time.  This new app will help dog owners track all relevant information that will help improve their dog’s health.

Dog Horoscope Anyone?

  • What the stars say about 2022.
  • If you are into the influence of the zodiac and personalities and also into dogs, then Yahoo Lifestyle has a horoscope prediction chart for your dog(s) for 2022.

  • Humans aren’t the only ones affected by planetary shifts, you can also look to the sky for intel on what could be coming down the pike for your pup.

  • Much the same way as people do, you can look to your furry companion’s birthdate to pinpoint their sun sign, which speaks to their core identity. (If you happen to know what time they were born, you could even go a little deeper and cast a whole natal, or birth, chart for them.) If they happen to be a rescue pet,  it might be hard to know that exact birthdate, but there’s generally astrological significance to their gotcha day as well, so you could go with that.
