Dog-Friendly Eats & Drinks Spring 2022

It’s springtime and you may be looking to take your dog to a winery, brewery or a restaurant on Long Island.

Last Fall, this blog posted “Dog Friendly Places to Visit on Long Island, NY”  Here we have some additions that might be helpful from Long Island Dog Parents website. They offer some tips to make your visit fun, friendly and worthwhile.

• Only bring a well-behaved, obedient dog to a place that is hectic, stressful and unfamiliar to your dog.
• Obviously, don’t let your dog bark, bite or menace anyone.
• Do a little restaurant research. It’s best to call ahead to make sure the pet-seating tables are open,
• Bring your own bowls, don’t expect the restaurant to have plates for your pet.
• Feed your dog first. You don’t need a fidgety dog making a scene.
• Never let your dog eat off our plate. It won’t be long before the restaurant stops allowing dogs.
• Have your dog sit underneath the table. Don’t let it interact with other patrons or passersby.
• Keep your dog on leash and under control at all times.
• Visit the restaurant, winery or brewery at off-hours; less stress, loud noises and chances of having an unforeseen occurrence.
• Always be aware of your dog. Sometimes, it’s just too quiet and you realize your dog found some food, pee’d on the man’s jacket or chewed on the lady’s purse. Be alert.
• Be prepared to leave. Sometimes, it’s just not a good day to do this.
